Hey Mark, some of the details here are off a bit. I did serve with the 2nd Ranger Bn. After that, I transferred to the Special Forces Qualification Course at Ft. Bragg. I would have loved serving with “Group.” (My dad did). But I blew my knee out and ended up serving with the 82nd Airborne after that. I didn’t work at the NY Times. I worked at another news organization though. (I do have several friends who work at the Times).

I was in NY City during 9/11. But I didn’t live there (I worked there and commuted into the city). The first plane hit while I was on an NJ Transit Train headed into the city. I had just exited Penn Station in midtown when the 2nd plane hit. It was a surreal time.

I was also in the city during the 2003 blackout. That wasn’t much fun either. lol

Thanks for the update, Bob. That’s the trouble with second-hand information–it’s often riddled with errors. I’m not sure whether I got that from your brother or your sister or some combination of the two, and how much of the error is my memory, but it’s good to be corrected.

And good to hear from you again.
      –Mark
